I will get thumbs down for this, hoeevwr, bite me !Actually, don't.. biting hurts unless your just being frisky..First..Learn light. Look at it. Try to understand it. Where is it coming from. What is it landing on. What do you.. want to expose for..?Learn that your light meter lies most all of the time. Learn what 18% gray means..!!! and read the above..Auto Focus is not always accuarte.. Learn to do it your self..!Use M a lot, not P.. it too, lies a lot.Learn that photography is both a art and a science. It is not a programed setting on ANY camera.Don't trust your camera but instead understand it is a machine suggesting.. to you, the human interface, a good' average exposure. Remember, a good' exposure is often far from the best..! The best could be many stops different than what your mind's eye is seeing or what the actual view may be. Learn this 18% gray stuff and how light meters work.!They are, in many cases, NOT your friend. If you learn this alone, your on your way..Here is a hard one.. Many instructors in school also follow a set way of doing things and often are like your light meter.Contrast. Composition. Colors. Not always in the normal scheme of things. Contrast need not be just in colors or light, think about it.Composition is crutial to a image captured. Shoot it a # of ways and go with the one that is right for you. Colors can be as littler as black n white. It is you who decides. In dim light, yellow is white and red is gray, but it is you to decide which is right.Think out of the box. If you don't, your just a anybody, with a camera.Push. Explore. Dare to be different. Copy..? Why..? Far to many people are doing the same thing. Can you do it differently..? Why copy..?!As far as taking/keeping pics go, keep as much as you can for furture looking at. Make sure you save them to a CD or DVD for use a few years from now. We all change our style as years go by and it's fun to always have early work to look at. Keep as much as you can, you will enjoy in later in life, trust me..Bob Tucson
